Unix Engineer role

Qualifications

  1. Technical Expertise:
    • Advanced knowledge in AIX or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating systems.
    • Experience with LPAR AIX installations, PowerVM/VIO (NPIV, SEA), and NIM.
    • Proficiency in managing OpenShift clusters and virtualized environments (95% virtualized RHEL machines).
    • Knowledge of storage arrays for Windows/Linux systems and backup infrastructure (software/hardware).
    • Familiarity with critical applications: Oracle, WebSphere Application Server, IBM Spectrum Protect, and SWIFT.
  2. Work Ethic and Skills:
    • Strong autonomy, rigor, and versatility in a high-SLA environment.
    • Capacity to manage the entire project lifecycle, including analysis, installation, testing, release/migration, documentation, and monitoring.
    • Awareness of financial sector standards and user-service expectations.
    • Adherence to security best practices (e.g., OS/application hardening, password management).

    • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and seek necessary information.
    • Compliance with administrative processes, regular reporting, and team coordination.

Responsibilities

  1. System Administration & Maintenance:
    • Manage 320 RHEL machines and Power servers running AIX.
    • Maintain critical applications, middleware, backups, and storage infrastructure.
    • Configure and monitor systems using tools like Nagios.
  2. Project Involvement:
    • Contribute to banking projects such as:
      • Installing and implementing banking and web applications.
      • Migrating versions/platforms (OS, apps).
      • Installing third-party tools and scripting solutions.
    • Perform system upgrades, patching, and daily maintenance.
    • Secure systems and ensure compliance with stringent financial industry standards.
  3. Documentation & Reporting:
    • Provide thorough documentation of processes, installations, and updates.
    • Regularly report progress and adhere to set schedules.
